RESOLUTION - Recognizing the month of October as National Disability Employment Awareness Month.

WHEREAS, observed in October, National Disability Employment Month commemorates and celebrates the contributions of America’s workers with disabilities by representing supportive, inclusive policies and practices that benefit employers and employees; and
WHEREAS, recognizing the importance of ensuring all people have equal opportunity to contribute their skills and talents, this year’s National Disability Employment Awareness Month theme is, “Advancing Access and Equity;” and
WHEREAS, the Americas with Disabilities Act (ADA), passed into law 33 years ago, protects people with disabilities from discrimination and provides opportunities for many to live an independent life by offering the resources needed without any discrimination; and
WHEREAS, the purpose of National Disability Employment Awareness Month is to educate about disability employment issues and celebrate the many and varied contributions of America’s workers with disabilities; and
WHEREAS, recognizing the Neighborhood and Aviation Departments as they are intricately involved in the Model Employer Initiative for their dedication to the City of Kansas City as an inclusive employer; and
WHEREAS, recognizing and celebrating National Disabilities Employment Awareness Month shows support from local, state and federal initiatives with the goal of breaking down obstacles that inhibit persons with disabilities; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That the Mayor and Council hereby recognize the month of October as National Disability Employment Awareness Month; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Cassidi Jobe and Teri Casey along with her Human Resources co-workers of Summit Future Foundation, with the appreciation of the Mayor and Council for their dedication and hard work.
