body
WHEREAS, the Kansas City and surrounding areas have a rich agricultural heritage grown from the labors of farmers and ranchers before us and impact the lives of all Kansas Citians from the food we eat, the fuel we use, to the clothes we wear; and
WHEREAS, agriculture contributes more than $88.4 billion to the Missouri state economy and $70.3 billion to the Kansas economy, is home to more than 150,000 farms collectively, and employs more than 700,000 laborers; and
WHEREAS, Kansas City is home to the Animal Health Corridor, American Royal, National Agricultural Center and Hall of Fame, and historically, the Kansas City Stockyards, formerly the second largest stockyards in the nation; and
WHEREAS, farmers and ranchers in both Missouri and Kansas work every day to grow and raise food, fuel, and fiber for people domestically and globally as the population grows and the need for a sustainable food supply has never been greater; and
WHEREAS, in a time when people experience food insecurity and severe weather events impact daily lives, farmers and ranchers in Missouri and Kansas are committed to producing more food while using less resources as they seek to continuously improve as good stewards of the finite resources they have been given; NOW THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
