Estimating and appropriating $42,740.00 in the Domestic Violence Shelter Operations Fund; authorizing the City Manager to accept a 12 month grant renewal under the Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) of 1984 administered by the State of Missouri’s Department of Public Safety, in the amount of $42,740.00 to partially fund one full-time victim assistant in the City Prosecutor’s Office.

WHEREAS, the Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) was passed by Congress to assist states in providing high quality services that are directly related to the emotional healing and recovery of crime victims; and

 

WHEREAS, the primary purpose of these grants is to support the provision of direct services to victims of crime throughout the nation, to assist victims of crime as soon as possible in order to reduce the severity of the psychological and emotional consequences of the victimization, and to demonstrate on-going support for the victim in coping with the impact of the victimization; and

 

                     WHEREAS, the U.S. Department of Justice, Office for Victims of Crime (OVC), administers these funds at the federal level, and the Missouri Department of Public Safety administers the VOCA funds at the state level; and

 

                     WHEREAS, it is in the best interests of Kansas City, Missouri, and its citizens to receive this grant from the State of Missouri, Department of Public Safety to secure assistance for its less fortunate citizens who have suffered physical or mental injury through acts which are in violation of criminal laws; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

                     BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

                     Section 1.  That the revenue in the following account of the Domestic Violence Shelter Operations Fund is hereby estimated in the following amount:

 

24-2580-130001-471240-G13VOCA21                     Domestic Violence VOCA Grant                     $42,740.00

 

Section 2.   That the amount of $42,740.00 is hereby appropriated from the Unappropriated Fund Balance of the Domestic Violence Shelter Operations Fund to the following account in the Domestic Violence Shelter Operations Fund:

 

24-2580-135701-A-G13VOCA21                                          Domestic Violence VOCA Grant                     $42,740.00

 

Section 3.   That the City Manager is to accept a 12 month grant under the Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) of 1984 administered by the State of Missouri’s Department of Public Safety, in the amount of $42,740.00 to provide for a full-time victim assistant in the City Prosecutor’s Office.

 

Section 4.   That the City Attorney is hereby designated as requisitioning authority for Account No. 24-2580-135701
