RESOLUTION - Recognizing the young people of the Engineering Neighborhood Jobs for Youth also known as E.N.J.O.Y. for their participation in the summer youth program and honoring E.N.J.O.Y for five years of service to the City of Kansas City.

WHEREAS, the E.N.J.O.Y. Program (Engineering Neighborhood Job Opportunities For Youth) was created five years ago by Pat Clarke honoring the JOY Program (Job Opportunities For Youth) of the nineteen seventies; and
WHEREAS, the E.N.J.O.Y. program provides experience, dedication, loyalty, respect, and common courtesy and the mission of the E.N.J.O.Y. Program is to create opportunities, teach economic development, build character, show students how to work with others, cultivate interest in their community and teach the importance of relationship building; and
WHEREAS, with the help of Forest Tyson Jr. (Tyson Brothers Construction) and Kim Randolph (Heartland Black Chamber of Commerce) a curriculum was developed and used through the years with each of the 200 participants and the one we lost to homicide; and
WHEREAS, the E.N.J.O.Y. Program owes a debt of gratitude to City officials like former City Manager Troy Schulte, former Parks Department Director Terri Rynard and former 3rd District City Councilman Brandon Ellington. Also, thanks to current City of Kansas City employees Karmen Houston, Director Mike Shaw, Mayor Pro Tem Ryana Parks-Shaw and Councilwoman Melissa Robinson. The E.N.J.O.Y. Program lives on because of all of you; and
WHEREAS, it is written that there is no substitute for hard work. If you work hard and prepare yourself, you might get beat, but you will never lose; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That the Mayor and Council celebrate with the E.N.J.O.Y. Program on five years of preparing our youth for greater opportunities; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Pat Clarke and the participants of the E.N.J.O.Y. Program with the support of the Mayor, Council, and citizens of Kansas City.
