RESOLUTION - Honoring Tony Weeks for his distinguished career as a Professional Boxing Referee.

WHEREAS, Tony Weeks was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, and graduated from the Eastern Military Academy in Huntington, Long Island, in 1975 before attending Eastern Arizona College, where he studied criminal justice; and
WHEREAS, Tony Weeks began his professional journey with the Federal Bureau of Prisons, serving as a Recreation Supervisor from 1987 until his retirement in 2013, demonstrating leadership, service, and commitment to community well-being; and
WHEREAS, Tony Weeks launched his refereeing career in professional boxing in 1993 in Phoenix, Arizona, and relocated to Las Vegas, Nevada, in 1995, where he continues to serve as a respected referee under the Nevada State Athletic Commission; and
WHEREAS, over the course of more than three decades, Tony Weeks has officiated over 800 boxing matches, including more than 50 world title fights, earning recognition for his fairness, professionalism, and integrity inside the ring; and
WHEREAS, Tony Weeks has presided over some of boxing’s most iconic and historic bouts, including Diego Corrales vs. Jose Luis Castillo (2005 “Fight of the Year”), Manny Pacquiao vs. Oscar De La Hoya, Manny Pacquiao vs. Marcos Antonio Barrera, Manny Pacquiao vs. Juan Manuel Marquez, Bernard Hopkins vs. Roy Jones Jr. II, Floyd Mayweather vs. Marcos Maidana, Floyd Mayweather vs. Miguel Cotto, and Wladimir Klitschko vs. Tyson Fury in Hamburg, Germany; and
WHEREAS, throughout his distinguished career, Tony Weeks has become one of the most respected and recognizable referees in professional boxing, ranked number one in the top fifteen boxing referees of all time, representing excellence, sportsmanship, and the highest standards of athletic officiating; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That the Mayor and Council hereby recognize and commend Tony Weeks for his exceptional contributions to the sport of boxing, his dedication to fair competition, and his enduring impact on athletes, fans, and the global boxing community; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Tony Weeks with recognition by the Mayor and Council of his outstanding achievements.
