RESOLUTION - Recognizing the Brookside Charter School Student Innovation Team.

WHEREAS, recognizing the Brookside Charter School Student Innovation Team for constructing a three-dimensional model of Daniel Morgan Boone Park to support KC Water’s community education and engagement for the Town Fork Creek Green Infrastructure Project; and
WHEREAS, KC Water’s Town Fork Creek Green Infrastructure Project is the largest green infrastructure project undertaken to date in Kansas City and will use innovative, nature-based solutions to manage stormwater while creating environmental and community benefits; and
WHEREAS, engaging communication is key to helping the community understand the project and its green infrastructure benefits; and
WHEREAS, during the summer of 2026, the Brookside Charter School Student Innovation Team, under the leadership of STEAM Director Kara Fisher, constructed a detailed three-dimensional model of the proposed improvements to Daniel Morgan Boone Park; and
WHEREAS, the model provides KC Water and the project team with a creative and effective tool for explaining the Town Fork Creek Green Infrastructure Project and promoting its benefits to residents, community organizations, and other stakeholders; and
WHEREAS, the Brookside Charter School Student Innovation Team includes seventh- and eighth-grade students, including Elijah, Frederick, Paige, Koree, Camia, Destynie, Demi, Corey (C.J.), and Janell under the guidance of Ms. Fisher; and
WHEREAS, the work of these talented students illustrates the value of STEAM education and demonstrates how young people can use their knowledge and skills to contribute meaningfully to projects that improve Kansas City; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That the Mayor and Council hereby recognize Brookside Charter School Student Innovation Team and STEAM Director Kara Fisher for their hard work and dedication to STEAM education and the Town Fork Creek Green Infrastructure Project; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that copies be presented to Kara Fisher and the members of the Brookside Charter School Student Innovation Team with the appreciation of the Mayor and Council for their innovation, teamwork and service to the Kansas City community.
