RESOLUTION - Recognizing November 10, 2025, as the 25th anniversary of the Stowers Institute for Medical Research in Kansas City.

WHEREAS, the Stowers Institute was founded by Jim and Virginia Stowers through their own personal fortune, as well as American Century Investments; and
WHEREAS, the Institute celebrates 25 years of transformational scientific research within Kansas City, advancing and accelerating our understanding of human health and disease; and
WHEREAS, the Stowers Institute has grown into a world-class biomedical research institute that continually draws great scientific minds to Kansas City and has distinguished itself with a national and global reputation as a leader in foundational life science, exploring profound questions that drive transformative advances, and inspiring hope for the future; and
WHEREAS, Jim and Virginia Stowers’ commitment to their hometown, their entrepreneurial spirit, and extraordinary vision has allowed Kansas City to be a place for world class research; groundbreaking scientific discoveries in biology, advancing knowledge in areas such as neuroscience, regeneration, diabetes, cancer, infertility, and more; and
WHEREAS, the Stowers Institute will host its 25th Anniversary Celebration Symposium on November 14, 2025, honoring a quarter century of discovery, innovation, and hope; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That the Mayor and Council hereby extend their thanks and appreciation to the Stowers Institute, American Century Investments, and Jim and Virginia Stowers for making a positive impact in Kansas City; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to the Stowers Institute WITH the Mayor and Council’s thanks for their perseverance as scientific leaders and also their commitment to Kansas City, Missouri.
