Authorizing the City Manager to negotiate and execute agreements to provide funding for security and safety equipment and technology in areas recommended by the Multidisciplinary Public Safety Task Force using previously appropriated funds.

WHEREAS, the safety and security of residents, business owners and visitors is important for continued progress and quality of life in the city; and

 

WHEREAS, the Multidisciplinary Public Safety Task Force, comprised of City staff from various City departments, was established to create proactive strategies, identify areas of highest need, and recommend budget expenditures in order to prioritize the delivery of city services in certain areas utilizing publicly available data provided by the Kansas City Police Department and participating City Departments; and

 

WHEREAS, Committee Substitute for Ordinance No. 250044 authorized the City Manager to negotiate and execute agreements with various agencies and districts to provide funding towards the use of off-duty officers and sheriffs’ deputies for security services in areas recommended by the Multidisciplinary Public Safety Task Force; and

 

WHEREAS, there is now an interest in expanding the potential use of those funds for the funding of security and safety equipment and technology, in addition to the hiring of off duty officers/deputies; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

Section 1. That the City Manager is authorized to negotiate and execute agreements with various agencies and districts to provide funding towards the use of security and safety equipment and technology in areas recommended by the Multidisciplinary Public Safety Task Force from funds previously appropriated in Committee Substitute for Ordinance No. 250044.
