RESOLUTION - Recognizing Local Initiatives Support Corporation Greater Kansas City during Housing America Month in celebration of its 45th anniversary.

WHEREAS, Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) is one of our country's oldest and largest community development organizations, making its first investment in the Kansas City region in 1981; and
WHEREAS, LISC has as its mission to work with residents and partners to forge resilient and inclusive communities of opportunity across America - great places to live, work, visit, do business and raise families; and
WHEREAS, LISC has a strategic plan that identifies the organization’s “North Star” to increase access to safe, stable, and sustainable housing, augmented by community investments to help people and places thrive; and
Whereas, since 1981, LISC Greater Kansas City has invested $199 million in affordable housing and economic development projects across our region, leveraging another $839 million, helping to create 6,025 affordable homes and apartments; and
WHEREAS, LISC Greater Kansas City and the Mid-America Regional Council established a Regional Housing Partnership to expand access to quality, diverse housing options; and
WHEREAS, LISC Greater Kansas City will be celebrating its 45th anniversary at its annual community gathering, Thrive, on October 28, 2026 at the Zhou B Art Center in the Historic 18th & Vine District; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That the Mayor and Council hereby recognize LISC Greater Kansas City during Housing America Month for its impact to our community over the past 45 years and declare October 28, 2026, as “LISC Greater Kansas City” Day in Kansas City, Missouri; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Geoff Jolley and the LISC Greater Kansas City team with the appreciation of the Mayor and Council for the dedication and hard work to help all residents have access to quality, affordable housing.
