Recognizing Taylor Fields as one of the founders of the City of Kansas City, Missouri Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) and Women Business Enterprise (WBE) Programs and a champion of civil rights.

WHEREAS, Taylor Fields was champion for the advancement of civil and human rights in Kansas City, Missouri; and
WHEREAS, Taylor Fields was commissioned as part of a team to perform and defend the City’s first MBE/WBE disparity study for marketplace inclusion of minority owned business and women owned businesses; and
WHEREAS, Taylor Fields was a longtime advocate for civic causes and economic advancement and inclusion of African Americans and other marginalized groups; and
WHEREAS, Taylor Fields founded what is known today as Fields & Brown, LLC, one of Kansas City’s oldest and largest minority-owned law firms; and
WHEREAS, Taylor Fields was a brilliant lawyer and a trailblazer and pioneer within the legal profession, especially for African-Americans in Kansas City, Missouri; and
WHEREAS, Taylor Fields had a lifelong passion for supporting the preservation of African American history and served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Black Archives of Mid-America and Treasurer of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference of Greater Kansas City; and
WHEREAS, Taylor Fields was recognized as a Super Lawyer in the area of employment law every year since 2006; and
WHEREAS, Taylor Fields successfully argued before the Missouri Supreme Court to establish a livable minimum wage of $15 per hour; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That the Mayor and Council hereby recognize Taylor Fields as a civic and community leader, astute businessman and a trailblazer in the legal community and the City of Kansas City, Missouri.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented on behalf of Taylor Fields with the appreciation of the Mayor and Council for Taylor Fields’ lifelong commitment to justice and equality.
