RESOLUTION - Congratulating Literacy KC on their 40th anniversary.

body

WHEREAS, Literacy KC has been serving the Kansas City community since 1985 and for over 40 years, has helped thousands of adults gain the reading, writing, digital, and language skills they need to thrive; and

WHEREAS, the mission of Literacy KC is to advance literacy for all programs that promote education, equity, and empowerment; and

WHEREAS, literacy is not just reading-it is a tool for opportunity, dignity, and independence; and

WHEREAS, behind every statistic is a powerful story: a parent reading to their child for the first time, a student getting their first job, or a learner voting for the first time; and

WHEREAS, KC Literacy’s students are proof that it is never too late to learn; and

WHEREAS, KC Literacy expanded their programs to include the learning of the English language, high school equivalency prep, digital skills training, and workforce development with the model being flexible, learner-centered, and always evolving to meet community needs; and

WHEREAS, KC Literacy’s success is built on a dedicated team, hundreds of volunteers, and generous community partners and donors; and

WHEREAS, as KC Literacy celebrates 40 years, they are not just looking back but are investing in the future with continued innovation and community support, they are committed to building a Kansas City where literacy is a right, not a privilege; NOW, THEREFORE,

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

That the Mayor and Council hereby congratulate Literacy KC on their 40th anniversary; and

BE IT  FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to KC Literacy with the Mayor and Council inviting everyone to be part of this movement by volunteering, donating, sharing a story, and helping to champion literacy for the next 40 years.
