RESOLUTION - Recognizing the 30-Year broadcasting legacy of Nick Vasos and his impact on Kansas City’s Soccer Culture.

WHEREAS, Nick Vasos has been a defining voice of indoor soccer in Kansas City for three decades, beginning his broadcast career during the 1996-97 season with the Kansas City Attack and continuing today as the play-by-play announcer for the Kansas City Comets at Cable Dahmer Arena; and

 

WHEREAS, Nick Vasos stands as a pioneer in Kansas City soccer broadcasting, connecting the legacy of professional indoor soccer to the region’s growing international soccer profile and inspiring the next generation of Kansas City broadcasters and fans alike; and

 

WHEREAS, the Kansas City Comets broadcast team, led by Nick Vasos, was recognized with the Major Arena Soccer League’s “Top Broadcast Award” during the 2022-23 season for excellence in coverage, storytelling, and fan engagement; and

 

WHEREAS, outside the arena, Nick Vasos has been a trusted voice in Kansas City media since joining FOX 4 Kansas City in 2002 as a general assignment and traffic reporter, continuing to inform, entertain, and represent our city with professionalism and heart; and

 

WHEREAS, as Kansas City prepares to take the global stage as a host city for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the City Council recognizes that the passion and commitment of soccer broadcast pioneers like Nick Vasos have helped lay the foundation for Kansas City’s emergence as a world-class soccer destination; and

 

WHEREAS, on the 30th anniversary of his indoor soccer announcing career, the City honors Nick Vasos for his enduring contributions to the sport, his role in shaping Kansas City’s soccer culture, and his steadfast representation of our community; and

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby extend their appreciation and hereby declare January 8, 2026, as “Nick Vasos Day” in Kansas City, and encourage all citizens to join in celebrating his remarkable career and his role in helping Kansas City’s voice be heard on the global soccer stage; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Nick Vasos in recognition of his 30 years of broadcasting excellence and his enduring impact on Kansas City’s soccer culture.
