WHEREAS, Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) are under the purview of the Equity Office and are created by City employees for City employees to foster inclusion, professional development, and community engagement; and
WHEREAS, when the Equity Office was established with the appointment of the City’s first Chief Equity Officer, LaDonna McCullough, one of its priorities was to strengthen the City’s support for ERGs. While the original ERG policy-Administrative Regulation 1-31-was issued in 2018 and revised in 2021, the Equity Office led a comprehensive update in 2023 that expanded the regulation to include formal oversight, budget allocations, leadership certification, and professional development opportunities for ERG members, including through partnerships with organizations such as the ERG Leadership Alliance; and
WHEREAS, under the Equity Office’s oversight, the number of ERGs has grown from two to five active groups, with a sixth-Black Women’s Leadership Council-pending approval. The current ERGs include: ASSET (African American/Black ERG), KC Proud (LGBTQ ERG), Vamos KC (Latino ERG), ECO (Environmental ERG), and KCVC (Veterans ERG); NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That the Mayor and Council hereby extend their gratitude and appreciation to the Equity Office, ERG Leadership Alliance, ASSET, KC Proud, Vamos KC, ECO, KCVC, and any future ERGs for prioritizing social, racial, and environmental concerns, by building strong ERGs and making a positive impact for the City of Kansas City employees; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to the Chief Equity Officer, LaDonna McCullough, and the Equity Office, and with the Mayor and Council commending the Equity Office, the ERG Leadership Alliance, and all current and future ERGs for their commitment to advancing equity, inclusion, and employee engagement, and for their ongoing efforts to build a workplace culture where every employee feels seen, supported, and empowered.
