RESOLUTION - Declaring April 24, 2025, as Take Your Kid to Work Day.

body

WHEREAS, Take Your Kid to Work Day is held on the fourth Thursday of every year in the month of April and this year's annual Take Your Kid to Work Day will be held on April 24, 2025; and

WHEREAS, the Ms. Foundation for Women founded Take Our Daughters to work in 1993 and in April 2003 decided to broaden the discussion about the competing challenges of work and family, understanding for girls to achieve their full potential, whether it is the home, workplace, or community, boys also must be encouraged to reach their potential by participating fully in work, family, and community which launched Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day, also known as Take your Kid to work Day; and

WHEREAS, children want and envision a future where they can be involved in all aspects. In a study conducted by the Families and Work Institute, 90 percent of students who said they plan to have a job also plan to have children, and of that 81 percent of those girls and 60 percent of boys said they will reduce their work hours when they have children; and

WHEREAS, by creating an opportunity for children to share their expectations for the future in the context of seeing new opportunities, we will begin a conversation about the changes children hope for and encourage them to think about how their dreams - both for their work and family lives - can be achieved; and

WHEREAS, Take Your Kid to Work Day reaches a new generation at work and introduces children to a discussion about the future of their workplace through interactive workplace activities and meaningful dialogues that encourage them to think about work and home life in ways they may never have before; NOW, THEREFORE,

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

That the Mayor and Council hereby declare April 24, 2025, as Take You Kid to Work Day and welcome all students who are joining our workforce on this special day; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony therefore and that copies hereof be presented to all City employer participants in recognition of the importance of daughters and sons at our workplace.
