RESOLUTION - Declaring May 4-10, 2025, as National Travel and Tourism Week in Kansas City, Missouri.

WHEREAS, the travel industry is essential to the success of every industry and will continue to be a critical part of Kansas City’s economy, development, and workforce; and

 

WHEREAS, travel spending supports vibrant and safe communities in Missouri and across the United States, generating $89 billion in state and local tax revenue across the country in 2024 to support essential services, such as education, emergency response, public safety and more; and

 

WHEREAS, travel is an economic powerhouse for our city, with an annual visitor spending of $4.0 billion, supporting more than 128,000 local jobs in 2023; and

 

WHEREAS, travel spending supports Kansas City with 78,000 daily visitors, a daily spending of $18.4 million and local sales tax revenue of $280.5 million in 2023; and

 

WHEREAS, travel enables success for all industries-including manufacturing, agriculture, defense, healthcare and more-by driving sales growth, innovation, education, and operations that power our economy, our state, and Kansas City; and

 

WHEREAS, America’s travel industry cannot be globally competitive without maximizing growth in leisure, business, and international inbound travelers, increasing travel to and within the United States drives our economy to a more prosperous future and connects America; and

 

WHEREAS, one in every 11 U.S. jobs depend on travel, making it a critical driver of America’s economy and a force for connection and opportunity; and

 

WHEREAS travel is an essential industry, and we must continue to communicate that growing travel leads to economic growth, benefits businesses, fosters mutual understanding, and connects the nation; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby declare May 4-10, 2025, as National Travel and Tourism Week in Kansas City, Missouri; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Brett Oetting of Visit KC with the Mayor and Council urging the citizens of this great city to join me in recognizing the essential role this industry plays in Kansas City, Missouri.
