RESOLUTION - Recognizing Head for the Cure and their 23rd Annual 5K Raising Awareness for Brain Cancer Research.

body

WHEREAS, Head for the Cure is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in Kansas City in 2003 by Matt Anthony in memory of his uncle, Chris Anthony, who passed away from glioblastoma, with a mission to inspire hope, raise funds for brain cancer research, and support patients, care partners, and families; and

WHEREAS, what began with a single 5K in Kansas City has grown into a national movement, with more than 350 events in 25 cities across the United States, engaging over 300,000 participants and raising more than $30 million for research, awareness, and patient support programs; and

WHEREAS, Kansas City remains the heart of Head for the Cure’s mission, with the annual Metro KC 5K raising over $7 million and welcoming more than 80,000 participants over the past 22 years, making it the city’s largest brain cancer awareness event; and

WHEREAS, Head for the Cure’s impact is driven by three core pillars: Community Mobilization & Awareness, which unites survivors, care partners, clinicians, and supporters; Patient & Care Partner Support, through its Path to Hope navigation platform and hospital partnerships; and Research & Clinical Impact, by funding grants and advancing neuro-oncology programs in Kansas City and across the nation; and

WHEREAS, Head for the Cure embodies values of compassion, partnership, and progress-meeting families where they are, collaborating with healthcare systems and civic leaders, and funding research and innovation that improve survival, quality of life, and hope for those affected by brain cancer; NOW, THEREFORE,

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

That the Mayor and Council hereby recognize and commend Head for the Cure for its two decades of leadership, compassion, and impact in Kansas City and beyond; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Matt Anthony and the Head for the Cure Organization with the Mayor and Council celebrating its continued mission of hope, advocacy, and progress for brain cancer patients, families, and communities.
