RESOLUTION - Recognizing and honoring the Northland Community Cleanup KC organization and their contributions to cleaning up litter in the Northland in Kansas City, Missouri.

WHEREAS, Northland Community Cleanup KC consists of a group of volunteers striving to clean up the litter from our roadways and common areas; and
WHEREAS, Nancy Gorton began picking up litter and trash on her own in 2019, she would later merge in 2021 with other like-minded individuals on a Facebook Group, named Northland Community Cleanup KC, attempting to make Kansas City North a cleaner place for residents; and
WHEREAS, Northland Community Cleanup KC usually meets on weekends, in high traffic areas, picking up trash and litter, filling 4,719 KCMO bags and 9,618 MODOT bags as of 2023; and
WHEREAS, Northland Community Cleanup KC has conducted 152 cleanup events, to date; and
WHEREAS, Park Hill High School National Honor Society, Park Hill South Robotics Club, Faith Christian Academy, Platte Woods United Methodist Church, Staley Falcons Tennis Club, Staley Scholars Club and Boy Scouts Troop #314 has, or will be, scheduled to benefit from their grant program; and
WHEREAS, Northland Community Cleanup KC is widely recognized for their cleanup efforts from local news sources, as well as many Kansas City, Missouri residents, and those that travel these high traffic areas that have been riddled with trash, debris and litter for months, even years; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That the Mayor and Council hereby recognize Northland Community Cleanup KC for their strong leadership and commitment in reducing the unsightly scene of trash along major highways and areas within the Northland in Kansas City; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Nancy Gorton and Northland Community Cleanup KC, with the appreciation of the Mayor and Council for their dedication and hard work in keeping the City of Kansas City, Missouri clean.
