Ratifying compensation of the City Manager and authorizing the Mayor to execute an employment agreement with Mario Vasquez for the position of City Manager.

WHEREAS, Section 218(d) of the Charter provides that: “[T]he Mayor may fix the compensation of the City Manager, subject to ratification by a vote of at least six additional members of the Council”; and
WHEREAS, by Resolution No. 250403, the Council appointed Mario Vasquez to serve as the City Manager of the City of Kansas City, Missouri and ratified a salary for City Manager Vasquez; and
WHEREAS, Ordinance No. 250404 authorized the Mayor to execute an "Employment Agreement Between the City of Kansas City, Missouri and Mario Vasquez;" however, further negotiation since that time has led to additional terms; and
WHEREAS, by Ordinance No. 250565 the Council established a salary grade range for the position of City Manager; and
WHEREAS, the previously ratified salary for City Manager Vasquez is below the minimum salary range established by Ordinance No. 250565; and
WHEREAS, the Council desires to ratify a new salary for City Manager Vasquez within the newly established salary range; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
Section 1. That the Council hereby ratifies, as required by Section 218(d) of the City Charter, the compensation to be paid to Mario Vasquez for his service as City Manager at an annual salary of three hundred fifteen thousand dollars ($315,000.00) as set out in the “Employment Agreement Between the City of Kansas City, Missouri and Mario Vasquez.”
Section 2. That the Mayor is hereby authorized to execute an "Employment Agreement Between the City of Kansas City, Missouri and Mario Vasquez" in substantial form and substance as that on file in the Mayor's Office.

I hereby certify that there is a balance, otherwise unencumbered, to the credit of the appropriation to which the foregoing expenditure is to be charged, and a cash balance, otherwise unencumbered, in the treasury, to the credit of the fund from which payment is to be made, each sufficient to meet the obligation hereby incurred.
