RESOLUTION - Recognizing National Caribbean-American Heritage Month (NCAHM) in Kansas City.

WHEREAS, National Caribbean-American Month (NCAHM), a celebration of the Caribbean-American contributions to the United States of America, has been celebrated for 19 years since it was first officially proclaimed in 2006; and 

 

WHEREAS, during Caribbean-American Heritage Month, we celebrate the achievements and dreams of the millions of people of Caribbean origin now living in the United States while honoring the shared history of joy and perseverance that has united and enriched lives across our region for centuries; and

 

WHEREAS,  National Caribbean-American Heritage Month is celebrated from June 1-30, 2024. The month honors the contributions of Caribbean immigrants and their descendants to the United States in areas such as business, journalism, government, sports, the military, and the arts; and

 

WHEREAS, Missouri Caribbean-American Association of Greater Kansas City  is celebrating their vibrant heritage by hosting the “Caribbean-American Cultural Extravaganza - Kansas City, Missouri” on Friday, June 7, 2024 from 12 pm to 9 pm at the Washington Square Park, 100 East Pershing Road, Kansas City, Missouri; and 

 

WHEREAS, the Cultural Extravaganza is organized in partnership with the Authentic Caribbean Foundation Inc. and Institute of Caribbean-American Diaspora Community in Kansas City, Missouri and will include presentations, arts and crafts, delicious food, and music; and

 

WHEREAS, in addition, recognizing Juliet Angelique Bodley aka Julie Mango for her outstanding work in the Caribbean community in bringing awareness to mental health. She has been able to help many who would otherwise hide because of the stigma associated with it; NOW, THEREFORE,

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby declare June National Caribbean-American Heritage Month (NCAHM) in Kansas City; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED  that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to members of the Caribbean- American community, with gratitude for the vital contributions of this community.
