RESOLUTION - Recognizing September 28, 2023 as National Good Neighbor Day, and raising public awareness that good neighbors help achieve human understanding and build strong, thriving communities in Kansas City and beyond.

WHEREAS, National Good Neighbor Day was established in 1978 by U.S. President Jimmy Carter, to reinforce the relationships that form the fabric of our communities; and
WHEREAS, in 2022, the State of Missouri designated September 28 "National Good Neighbor Day" and September 28 - October 4 "Missouri Good Neighbor Week," encouraging citizens of Missouri to participate in events and activities to establish connections with their neighbors; and
WHEREAS, bringing neighbors together builds connectedness, and connectedness builds more satisfying, self-sufficient and effective communities that strengthen our nation as a whole; and
WHEREAS, when neighbors know, speak to and celebrate with, one another, communities work better, student performance improves, crime rates decrease, children are safer and our communities become happier places to live; and
WHEREAS, National Good Neighbor Day is celebrated in neighborhoods across the country with five pillars in mind: (1) Connection, (2) Invitation, (3) Celebration, (4) Awareness, and (5) Availability; and
WHEREAS, National Good Neighbor Day is celebrated and officially recognized on September 28, 2023; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That the Mayor and Council hereby recognize September 28, 2023, as National Good Neighbor Day; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that copies hereof be presented to neighborhood leaders in Kansas City, with the Mayor and Council honoring the outstanding achievements of all Kansas Cit...
