RESOLUTION - Recognizing the Musical Exchange between Frutillar and Kansas City, UNESCO Creative Cities of Music.

WHEREAS the City of Frutillar, Chile and Kansas City both joined the UNESCO Creative Cities Network six years ago in October 2017 as the first City of Music in each country; and
WHEREAS this year is the 200th Anniversary of the establishment of Diplomatic Relationships between Chile and the United States; and
WHEREAS Creative City KC has worked with the City and the US Embassy to promote Kansas City Jazz around the world through the UNESCO Creative Cities Network; and
WHEREAS the City of Kansas City, Missouri worked with the City of Frutillar to create the Rhythm Between the River and the Lake - a musical exchange focused on women in jazz; and
WHEREAS Kansas City recognizes the opportunity to host musicians from around the world as part of our active membership in the UNESCO Creative Cities Network; and
WHEREAS Kansas City’s Mayor and Council recognize the importance of citizen diplomacy and the power of music to build cultural understanding, peace, and justice; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That the Mayor and Council hereby welcome musicians Italo Aguilera, Martina Venegas, Felipe Conejero, Daniela Conejero and UCCN focal point María José Mira to Kansas City; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Dr. Jacob Wagner in token of the Mayor and Council’s high regard with which he is held and for his dedication to this community.
