RESOLUTION - Recognizing the Local Chapter of the National Congress of Black Women, Inc., for the 10th Anniversary of The Ebony Rose Scholarship and Awards Gala.

WHEREAS, the National Congress of Black Women, Inc. - Kansas City Chapter will host its Tenth Anniversary of The Ebony Rose Scholarship and Awards Gala, Dream Big. Sparkle More. Shine Bright! on November 4, 2023, at The Kansas City Convention Center, also known as Bartle Hall; and

WHEREAS, the National Congress of Black Women, Inc. is a not-for-profit, non-partisan, charitable organization dedicated to the educational, political, economic, and cultural enrichment of African American women, their families, and the community; and

WHEREAS, the keynote speaker for this year's event is Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary (PDAS) of the Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity (FHEO) at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), Demetria McCain; and

WHEREAS, the opening speaker for this year's event is physician and actress, Dr. Contessa Metcalfe of the TV show, Married to Medicine; and

WHEREAS, PDAS Demetria McCain assists HUD's efforts to eliminate housing discrimination, promote economic opportunity, and achieve diverse, inclusive communities. She is a graduate of Howard University School of Law, New York University and Brooklyn College and is a member of the Dallas Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.; and

WHEREAS, the National Congress of Black Women, Inc.- Kansas City Chapter will be awarding educational scholarships to ten students as part of its annual scholarship and awards gala event; NOW, THEREFORE,

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

That the Mayor and Council hereby recognize the Local Chapter of the National Congress of Black Women, Inc., for the 10th Anniversary of The Ebony Rose Scholarship and Awards Gala; and
