RESOLUTION - Recognizing Kansas City hip-hop legend Tech N9ne for his contributions and success in the entertainment, film, and music industry, worldwide.

WHEREAS, born and raised in Kansas City, Aaron Dontez Yates, better known as Tech N9ne, set a precedent for hip-hop around the world, while continuing to be an avid supporter of Kansas City culture, his community, and Kansas City's professional sports teams, including the Kansas City Chiefs, the Kansas City Royals, the Kansas City Current, and Sporting Kansas City; and

WHEREAS, in 1999, Tech N9ne and his business partner Travis O'Guin founded the record label Strange Music, headquartered in Kansas City, which houses 23 Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) gold and platinum records, ranking as the number one independent hip-hop label in the world; and

WHEREAS, Tech N9ne holds the record for the most top 10 albums on the Billboard rap chart, earned a spot in the Top 5 of the Billboard 200 four times, has earned three gold records, sold more than two million albums, and his music has been featured in several films, television shows, and video games; and

WHEREAS, on October 8, 2021, Tech N9ne released an album titled "Asin9ne," featuring guest appearances from Lil Wayne, Mumu Fresh, Snow Tha Product, Russ, E-40, X-Raided, as well as wrestler turned actor Dwayne Johnson; and

WHEREAS, after the Kansas City Chiefs' Super Bowl victory in 2020 and 2023, Tech N9ne performed to more than one million fans at the Chiefs victory parades; and

WHEREAS, Kansas Citians are proud of Tech N9ne's unwavering support of Kansas City and his musical contributions, which have impacted and touched people all around the world; NOW, THEREFORE,

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
