RESOLUTION - Honoring the Kansas City Public Schools East High School boys soccer team for their state championship win.

WHEREAS, the East High School boys soccer team won the Missouri state 2023 Class 3 semi-finals on November 17, 2023, thereby advancing to the state Class 3 title game on November 18, 2023, where a matchup against the Ladue Horton Watkins awaited; and

WHEREAS, the first 65 minutes of the championship game were scoreless, and the East High School Bears scored two goals in the last fifteen minutes of playtime, winning the state title 2-0 against the Ladue Horton Watkins boys soccer team: and

WHEREAS, the East High School soccer team finished the 2023 season 19-2, including 16 consecutive wins to claim the state title; and

WHEREAS, this is the first team sport state title win for East High School since 1929 and the first team sport state title win for Kansas City Public Schools since 2004; and

WHEREAS, special recognition should be provided to the coaching staff and students, Mr. Lee Meyers, KCPS Athletic Director, Mr. Gerzo Guerrero, East High School Head Soccer Coach, Mr. Javier Alvarado, East High School Assistant Soccer Coach, Dr. Amanda Dennison, East High School Assistant Soccer Coach, Students/players - Elias Pelico Perez, Maposo Itongwa, Shukuru Hassani, Chrispin Abwe, Omari Shabani, Donat Ekengya, Msafiri Ebunga, Hussein Mwanue, Mugisha Mutabazi, Mayson Victor, Esube Byoke (named an All American player), Juan Vergara Bustamante, Byaombe Makamba, Zekarias Zekarias, Msafiri Louis Ebumbe, Hector Salazar Ramirez, Echa Dunia, Jean Byaombe, Samuel Habimana, Juma Etando, Jackson Twizerimana (leading goal-scorer & regionally-recognized), Lomge Kebe, Rashidi Mwenitanda, among others; and
