Recognizing the anniversary of the Kansas City LGBTQ Commission in the City of Kansas City.

WHEREAS, the uprising at the Stonewall Inn in June, 1969, sparked a liberation movement and call to action that continues to inspire us to live up to our nation's promise of equality, liberty, and justice for all; and

WHEREAS, this December, we recall the trials the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer community have endured and recognize the legacy of trailblazing individuals who continue to fight for equality here in the Kansas City community; and

WHEREAS, we pause to commemorate the creation of the Kansas City Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer Commission on the 17th day in December of 2020; and

WHEREAS, we recognize the historic work by the Kansas City LGBTQ Commission to create a more inclusive, welcoming, and affirming community here in Kansas City; and

WHEREAS, we thank the tireless work of the thirteen commissioners who serve the Kansas City LGBTQ+ community as well as the Kansas City community at large; and

WHEREAS, we give special thanks to the Kansas City community members, partners, and activists who continue to make the work of the commission vital; and

WHEREAS, we share our heartfelt thank you to the Kansas City LGBTQ Commission for helping to ensure that the Kansas City LGBTQ+ community felt safe and secure after the lives lost at Club Q in Colorado Springs; and

WHEREAS, we as the Kansas City Council thank the LGBTQ Commission for working to make Kansas City a more welcome and loving place to live and play in; NOW, THEREFORE

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

That the Mayor and Council hereby recognize, congratulate, and commemorate the anniversary of the Kansas City LGBTQ Commission in the City of Kansas City, Missouri; and
