Recognizing May 15-21, 2022, as “National EMS Week” in Kansas City, Missouri.

WHEREAS, National EMS Week honors those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in Emergency Medical Service; and
WHEREAS, in 1974, President Gerald Ford authorized EMS Week to celebrate EMS practitioners and the important work they do in our nation's communities. EMS Week brings together local communities and medical personnel to honor the dedication of those who provide the day-to-day lifesaving services of medicine's "front line;" and
WHEREAS, KCFD crews respond to more than 120,000 medical calls each year providing patient assessment, treatment and transport services, including rehab and medical services to other KCFD crews at structure fires, HAZ-MAT calls, and technical rescue incidents; and
WHEREAS, KCFD provides pre-hospital medical care and treatment to Kansas City, Missouri residents as needed; and
WHEREAS, EMS week honors EMS staff in Kansas City and all EMS workers who have served with Kansas City, Missouri; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That the Mayor and Council hereby recognize and observe May 15-21, 2022, as National EMS Week in Kansas City, Missouri; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be accepted by the Kansas City Missouri Fire Department Staff in token of the appreciation of the Mayor and Council for many years of dedicated service and of their best wishes for all the years to come.
