RESOLUTION - Celebrating Hanukkah and lighting the menorah at City Hall.

WHEREAS, the City Council wishes to affirm and welcome the expression of all faiths in Kansas City, as many traditions prepare to celebrate this winter’s holiday season; and
WHEREAS, Greater Kansas City is home to a thriving and active Jewish community of over 20,000 residents, who are a vital part of its civil and cultural fabric; and
WHEREAS, the Jewish community of Kansas City will soon celebrate Hanukkah, a holiday marked by life, light, and resilience; and
WHEREAS, Hanukkah begins at sundown on the 25th day of Kislev according to the Hebrew calendar, which falls on the evening of Sunday, December 14, 2025; and
WHEREAS, for the last four years, City Council has invited members and leaders Kansas City’s Jewish community to light the menorah at City Hall, and has lit City Hall’s electric menorah each night of Hannukah; and
WHEREAS, the City Council wishes to uphold its tradition of welcoming members and leaders of Kansas City’s Jewish community to lead the City in lighting its menorah, along with any members of the Kansas City community who wish to join in celebrating Hanukkah; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That the Mayor and Council hereby wish the Jewish community of Kansas City a Happy Hanukkah, direct the City Manager to light the electric menorah at City Hall for the duration of Hanukkah, and invite the community to join in lighting the menorah at City Hall on the evening Monday, December 15, 2025, the first day and second night of Hannukah.
