RESOLUTION - Declaring October 2026 as Arts and Humanities Month in Kansas City.

WHEREAS, the arts and humanities reflect the creativity, knowledge, history, imagination, and lived experiences of our communities, enriching our lives, strengthening our connections to one another, and telling the stories of who we are and who we aspire to become; and
WHEREAS, Kansas City’s artists, culture bearers, cultural institutions, educators, and creative organizations are essential to our city’s identity, strengthening neighborhoods, inspiring innovation, expanding opportunity, and contributing to our quality of life; and
WHEREAS, arts and culture are also a significant economic engine for our region, with Greater Kansas City’s nonprofit arts and culture sector generating more than $615 million in annual economic activity, supporting 8,977 jobs, and generating $97.5 million in local, state, and federal tax revenue; and
WHEREAS, arts and culture strengthen Kansas City’s broader economy by attracting visitors, supporting local businesses, creating jobs, and generating activity across hospitality, tourism, transportation, retail, education, and other sectors throughout the region; and
WHEREAS, in 2026, Kansas City welcomed visitors from around the world as a Host City for the FIFA World Cup 2026™, creating an extraordinary opportunity to share our region’s creativity, history, and character on a global stage; throughout this historic moment, artists, performers, cultural institutions, and creative organizations animated public spaces, shared the stories of our communities, fostered connection across cultures, and demonstrated the essential role of arts, culture, and the humanities in making Kansas City a welcoming, vibrant, and memorable community for residents and visitors alike; and
