RESOLUTION - Declaring the week of May 19-25, 2024, as National Public Works Week in Kansas City, Missouri.

WHEREAS, this year's National Public Works Week theme is "Advancing Quality of Life for All." This year's theme illustrates how public works professionals contribute to and enhance the quality of life in all the communities they proudly serve; and

WHEREAS, Public Works employees have achieved many accomplishments this year. To name a few: Jason Waldron, Transportation Manager of the Year; Bailey Waters, Public Safety Award; record breaking street resurfacing led by Garrett Ross; Project of the Year led by Andrew Ngui; Uday Manepalli for Smart Technologies to Assess Sidewalks; and over 80% of streetlight conversion completed led by Mahmoud Hadjian; and

WHEREAS, it is in the public interest to maintain interest and understanding of the importance of Public Works programs such as street maintenance, street signs and markings, solid waste, neighborhood cleanups, illegal dumping, traffic engineering, streetlights and traffic lights, project and construction management, permitting and permit inspection, parking programs, complete streets, sidewalk repair, administration, and the various services that support multimodal transportation; and

WHEREAS, the health, safety, connectivity, and comfort of the citizens of Kansas City greatly depend on the services offered by Public Works, whose goals can be observed through the department's SPIRIT values - standing for Sustainability, Public Safety, Integrity, Responsiveness, Innovation and Teamwork; and

WHEREAS, the year 2024 marks the 64th annual National Public Works Week sponsored by the American Public Works Association; NOW, THEREFORE,
