RESOLUTION - Declaring the week of February 24 through March 2, 2025, as National Eating Disorder Awareness Week throughout the City of Kansas City, Missouri.

WHEREAS, this year's theme for National Eating Disorder Awareness Week is, "The Time is Now," so that through knowledge and education we can learn more about eating disorders, get involved in raising awareness and share information and resources; and
WHEREAS, eating disorders are serious and complex, yet treatable, medical and mental illnesses that affect 30 million Americans at some point in their lives no matter their gender, age, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, body shape or weight; and
WHEREAS, left untreated eating disorders have traditionally had one of, if not the, highest mortality rates of any mental illness, which is why we advocate for those suffering from an eating disorder to seek support, treatment, and care from local care health care providers; and
WHEREAS, it is common for people with eating disorders to have one or more co-occurring conditions, such as anxiety or depression; and
WHEREAS, the City Council, under Councilwoman Andrea Bough's leadership, has advocated for awareness and early treatment of eating disorders for the past decade; and
WHEREAS, The Eating Disorders Center (EDC) at Children's Mercy provides much needed outpatient, family-centered care for children and teens with eating disorders in the Greater Kansa City area; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That the Mayor and Council hereby declare February 24-March 2, 2025, as Eating Disorder Awareness Week throughout the City of Kansas City, Missouri; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Children's Mercy...
