Recognizing the North American Strategy for Competitiveness and their relationship with Kansas City.

WHEREAS, NASCO (North American Strategy for Competitiveness) was founded in 1994 in North Texas as the "I-35 Corridor Coalition"; and
WHEREAS, NASCO's priority is to facilitate fair and competitive business and productive policies for North America. NASCO has produced lasting relationships, initiatives - and results - and have kept North Americans engaged and moving forward in critical areas for our continents global competitiveness; and
WHEREAS, NASCO is the only grassroots, continental organization focused on the North American supply chains and training for the workers who support them; and
WHEREAS, NASCO's North American headquarters were based in KC from 1998-2004. Former Mayor Pro Tem George Blackwood was Chairman of NASCO from 2005-2011. Following Mr. Blackwood, Councilman Scott Wagner represented Kansas City on NASCO's Board of Directors, and today Councilwoman Katheryn Shields is Kansas City's representative; and
WHEREAS, the NASCO "Continental Reunion" is unique, as it rotates between Canada, the United States and Mexico each year. The Continental Reunion brings together senior political and business leaders from the three countries to address key issues and opportunities for improved cooperation and economic partnership, as well as to deliver innovative perspectives on critical issues pertaining to the future of trade and transportation in North America; and
WHEREAS, NASCO hosted their 2011 NASCO Continental Reunion in Kansas City, and over the years have hosted many other smaller events in the region; and
WHEREAS, NASCO will host their 2022 Continental Reunion in Kansas City, from September 26th - 28th; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
