RESOLUTION - Declaring May 5-11, 2024 as Drinking Water Week in Kansas City.

WHEREAS, water is Kansas City’s most valuable natural resource, essential for public health, fire protection, quality of life, and even for life itself; and
WHEREAS, Kansas Citians are privileged that the Missouri River - one of the most bountiful sources of fresh water in the world - is its primary source of water; and
WHEREAS, the hard work performed by KC Water staff includes designing capital projects, repairing critical water main infrastructure, and purifying and distributing the clearest and best tasting drinking water in the region; and
WHEREAS, KC Water treats about 120 million gallons of water every day and delivers it over 320 square miles of Kansas City via 2,800 miles of pipeline; and
WHEREAS, every Kansas Citian is called upon to help protect our source waters from pollution, practice water conservation and get involved with their water by familiarizing themselves with it; and
WHEREAS, the entire community is called to be aware of challenges to the source of drinking water; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That the Mayor and Council hereby declare May 5-11, 2024 as Drinking Water Week; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to KC Water with the recognition of the Mayor, Council, and citizens of Kansas City for the dedication and service of KC Water associates.
