RESOLUTION - Recognizing September 28, 2024, as National Good Neighbor Day, which highlights how fostering strong, supportive relationships between neighbors promotes human understanding and helps build vibrant, thriving communities in Kansas City and beyond.

WHEREAS, National Good Neighbor Day was established in 1978 by U.S. President Jimmy Carter, to reinforce the relationships that form the fabric of our communities; and
WHERAS, Missouri Good Neighbor Week was signed into law in 2022, encouraging citizens of Missouri to participate in events and activities to establish connections with their neighbors, and is celebrated September 28 to October 4; and
WHEREAS, uniting neighbors fosters strong connections, which in turn creates more satisfying, self-sufficient, and effective communities, enhancing our nation; and
WHEREAS, when neighbors connect, communicate, and celebrate together, communities thrive, students excel, crime rates decrease, children are safer, and overall happiness increases; and
WHEREAS, National Good Neighbor Day is celebrated in neighborhoods across the country with five pillars in mind: (1) connection, (2) invitation, (3) celebration, (4) awareness, and (5) availability; and
WHERAS, National Good Neighbor Day is celebrated and officially recognized on September 28, 2024, NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That the Mayor and Council hereby recognize September 28, 2024, as National Good Neighbor Day; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to the City of KCMO Neighborhoods Department with the recognition of the outstanding achievements of all "good neighbors" in Kansas City and by honoring them on this day for thei...
