RESOLUTION - Acknowledging and celebrating the legendary contributions of Bloodstone, a pioneering force in the evolution of R&B, soul, and funk music by declaring February 13, 2025, as Bloodstone Day in Kansas City.

WHEREAS Bloodstone, a gifted, multi-talented vocal group, is best known for their Grammy award winning single "Natural High" and show stopping single, "We Go a Long Way Back;" and
WHEREAS, Bloodstone's original members, initially known as the "Sinceres," began their careers while attending Central High School in Kansas City; and
WHEREAS, Bloodstone has entertained and captivated audiences for over 60 years, with performances beginning in Kansas City and including every major city in these United States, the United Kingdom, France and Germany, appearing with the Temptations, Marvin Gaye, Elton John, and Chaka Khan; and
WHEREAS, original Bloodstone members Roger Durham, Willis Draffen, Charles D. Love, Charles McCormick, Melvin Webb, and Harry Williams, Jr., being the last of the group to transition from this earthly plain to the next; and
WHEREAS, through their music, Bloodstone has made a profound musical contribution, enriching the lives of their listeners around the world and have shared this gift with the residents of Kansas City known every time they appeared this groundbreaking group was introduced as "Kansas City's own, BLOODSTONE;" NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That the Mayor and Council hereby recognize and honor the group known as "Bloodstone" for a lifetime of accomplishments in the world of Rhythm & Blues, and do hereby declare February 13, 2025, as Bloodstone Day in Kansas City; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Larry Durham and the extended fami...
