Honoring Alvin A. Clark, Sr., on his lifetime of service and achievements.

WHEREAS, Alvin was born on February 28, 1936, and is the 8th of nine children of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard G. Clark Sr.; and

WHEREAS, Alvin was educated in Kansas City Missouri school district attended Manual Tech vocational school, class of 1956, he married his high school sweetheart Evonia Riley and to this union, five children were born; and

WHEREAS, Alvin has influenced the lives of many children starting back as early as 1968 when he began volunteering as a coach with some of his coaching highlights were in 1974, he took his Biddy Basketball Team to the nationals in New Orleans, the same year his Mickey Mantle Baseball Team (Art Bunker) advanced to the Nationals in Sharman, Texas, and his Stan Mursal 18 and over baseball team competed in the nationals in Dallas, Texas in 1982; and

WHEREAS, for 40 plus years his fundamental work ethic and coaching help lay the groundwork for developing successful life skills in youth; and

WHEREAS, volunteering at the boys and girls club, starting in 1968 (Thornberry Unit), Alvin was passionate about helping each child build character and to learn how to respect others and to participate in life as an influential being and his message to the youth of today is to learn, be respectful, get good grades, and to continue their education; and

WHEREAS, as a key staple in many lives, Alvin has been influential to the youth, to strangers, and to his family. He is an example of tough love, a strong mind, a substantial leader, and a kind heart with his name holding weight in the community and carving a special place in many hearts; NOW, THEREFORE,

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
