RESOLUTION - Recognizing June as RaisingKC Month in Kansas City, Missouri.

WHEREAS, RaisingKC is our community's united response to these calls for action: The single most important factor influencing a child's healthy development is having a safe, stable and nurturing relationship with a mother, father or other primary caregiver, according to the National Academy of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine; the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Children's Hospital Association and the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry have issued a national Crisis Alert, calling for action to prevent the serious toll on children's mental health caused by toxic stress; and the American Academy of Pediatrics calls for a community-wide effort to recognize toxic stress as "a slow moving public health threat that can be tempered by a preventative approach aimed at developing and strengthening healthy relationships"; and
WHEREAS, during June RaisingKC Month, community experts in health, education, business and community support will share the science of toxic stress and how safe, stable, nurturing adult-child relationships are the #1 way to prevent the leading mental, behavioral and physical health problems of our time, including violence, bullying, drug addiction, anxiety, depression, suicide, obesity, heart disease, cancer and more; and
WHEREAS during June RaisingKC Month, we will lead city-wide conversations and connections through our website, RaisingKC.org, and across the entire bi-state area; and
WHEREAS, an iconic RaisingKC Quilt, 10 ft. X 10 ft., depicting the moments and people who help create our safe, stable and nurturing community has been created to symbolize the comfort and coming together around our children will be on display at Union Station from June 3rd to June 16th; and
