RESOLUTION - Directing the City Manager to identify a funding plan to increase Aim 4 Peace annual funding allocations to $1.6 million; and directing the City Manager to report back to the City Council in 14 days.

WHEREAS, the City Council wants to use every tool possible to reduce crime and improve the lives of residents; and
WHEREAS, while the budget has been approved, more work still needs to be done in the areas of crime prevention and reduction; and
WHEREAS, on April 4, 2023, the qualified voters of the City authorized the imposition of a 3% sales tax on the tangible personal property retail sales of recreational (non-medicinal) adult use marijuana; and
WHEREAS, in Resolution No. 230159, the City Council declared its intent to use revenue generated by the tax for the purposes of trash pick-up, neighborhood clean-up, homelessness response efforts, and violence prevention efforts; and
WHEREAS, in Ordinance No. 230362, the City Council imposed the adult use marijuana sales tax and stated that one-third of the revenue shall be used for violence prevention efforts via the Health Department; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
Section 1. That the City Manager is hereby directed to identify a funding plan to increase Aim 4 Peace annual funding allocations to $1.6 million.
Section 2. That the City Manager is hereby directed to report back to the City Council in 14 days.
