RESOLUTION - Recognizing the completion of the Southwest Boulevard Transportation Plan; and directing the City Manager to begin implementation of the Southwest Boulevard Transportation Plan recommendations.

WHEREAS, the Southwest Boulevard Transportation Plan was funded through the Planning Sustainable Places program and seeks to address issues related to transportation, neighborhood identity, elements within the public right of way, and the natural environment; and

 

                     WHEREAS, the corridor study area runs from Broadway Boulevard to the north and 31st Street to the south; and

 

                     WHEREAS, Bilingual public engagement was gathered via local business owners, community leaders, neighborhood residents, interested individuals in the community, law enforcement community liaisons, City staff, and MARC through stakeholder meetings, walking tours, focus groups, a visual preference survey, business outreach, design workshops, and public open houses; and

 

                     WHEREAS, $1.7 million in funds have been identified to complete the plan recommendations through the Hotel Phillips TIF program; and

 

                     WHEREAS, the plan recommendations include traffic calming, transit accessibility, mobility improvements, parking capacity, truck and freight access, neighborhood identity and wayfinding, public safety, public space improvements, sidewalk maintenance, local business support, stormwater infrastructure, impervious surface reduction, and natural landscaping; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

                     BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

                     Section 1. That the Council recognizes completion of the Southwest Boulevard Transportation Plan.

 

Section 2. That the City Manager is hereby directed to begin implementation of the Southwest Boulevard Transportation Plan recommendations.
