Congratulating Duaa Mohamed on being newly elected as Governor at Missouri Girls State for 2021.

WHEREAS, the American Legion Auxiliary (ALA) held their 79th session of Missouri Girls State from June 20-26, 2021, at the University of Central Missouri with 465 total delegates from the 2020 and 2021 sessions in attendance due to last year’s Covid cancellation; and
WHEREAS, ALA Missouri Girls State is designed to help girls develop leadership skills by forming their own society and setting up local and state governments including the opportunity to run for office or be appointed to a post while others will support their community and candidates for their choice; and
WHEREAS, Duaa Mohamed was elected as governor for 2021 and will return to ALA Missouri Girls State in June of 2022 to preside over the next session; and
WHEREAS, , Duaa Mohamed will soon begin her senior year at North Kansas City High School where she is an award-winning debater and serves as Captain of her school’s pole vault team; and
WHEREAS, the American Legion Auxiliary supports our Missouri veterans, and in addition to food and cash donations, this year Missouri Girls State donated ten cases of hand sanitizer to the Veterans Community Project in Kansas City, delivered by Governor Duaa Mohamed to VCP; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That the Mayor and Council hereby congratulate Duaa Mohamed on being newly elected as Governor at Missouri Girls State for 2021; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Duaa Mohamed in token of the Mayor and Council’s best wishes for her future endeavors.
