RESOLUTION - Declaring May 2025, as Older Americans Month in Kansas City, Missouri.

WHEREAS, May is Older Americans Month, a time for us to recognize and honor Kansas City, Missouri older Americans’ contributions, highlight aging trends, and reaffirm our commitment to serving older adults; and
WHEREAS, this week the Council honors older adults’ contribution to our society, and encourages individuals and communities to challenge stereotypes and dispel misconceptions, transforming how society perceives, talks about, and approaches aging; and
WHEREAS, the Council commends the Clay County Senior Services, Aging & Adult Services, Mid-America Regional Council, and the Platte County Senior Fund for assisting with connecting the older adults with many opportunities for staying active and engaging as they age; and
WHEREAS, Kansas City, Missouri must highlight the opportunities for purpose, exploration, and the connection that come with aging; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That the Mayor and Council hereby declare May 2025, as Older Americans Month in Kansas City, Missouri; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Tina Uridge, Executive Director, Clay County Senior Services, Kristi Bohling-DaMetz, Director, Aging & Adult Services, Mid-America Regional Council, and Debra L. Gwin, Executive Director, Platte County Senior Fund, with the Mayor and Council urging every resident to recognize the contributions of our older citizens, helping to create an inclusive society, and joining efforts to support older Americans’ choices about how they age in their communities.
