RESOLUTION - Honoring Dr. David Bamberger on his retirement from nearly 40 years of service to the Kansas City Health Department.

WHEREAS, Dr. David Bamberger, a native of Kansas City, earned his bachelor’s degree with highest distinction in biochemistry from the University of Kansas in 1976, and his M.D. from Baylor College of Medicine in 1979; and
WHEREAS, he completed postdoctoral training at the University of Minnesota (1980-1985), then served as an infectious disease and pulmonary physician in the City’s Tuberculosis Clinic (1987-2008); and
WHEREAS, Dr. Bamberger became medical director of the sexual health clinic in 2009, later adding oversight of the tuberculosis and travel health clinics in 2015; and
WHEREAS, he helped develop COVID-19 vaccine protocols and issued standing medical orders for vaccination; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Bamberger also serves as Professor of Medicine and Biomedical and Health Informatics at the UMKC School of Medicine, and as Section Chief of Infectious Disease at University Health; and
WHEREAS, he is supported by his wife, Elizabeth, and daughters Emily and Elissa; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Bamberger officially retired as the Health Department’s contracted medical director on October 1, 2025, after decades of dedicated service; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That the Mayor and Council of Kansas City, Missouri, extend their deep gratitude to Dr. Bamberger for his leadership and contributions to public health; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minute of the Council, and a copy be presented to Dr. David Bamberger with best wishes for his continued health, happiness, and success.
