RESOLUTION - Celebrating the 25th anniversary of Denim Day and honoring the Metropolitan Organization to Counter Sexual Assault (MOSCA) for their work in the community.

WHEREAS, the 25th anniversary of Denim Day serves as a poignant reminder of the global movement sparked by the injustices faced by survivors of sexual violence; and
WHEREAS, the origin of Denim Day traces back to Italy in 1992, when the acquittal of a rapist by the Italian Supreme Court ignited outrage and catalyzed activism worldwide; and
WHEREAS, the impassioned response of the women in the Italian Parliament, who protested the court's decision by wearing jeans, inspired a tradition of solidarity and advocacy that continues to resonate across continents; and
WHEREAS, the Council commends the dedication and leadership of organizations such as the Metropolitan Organization to Counter Sexual Assault (MOCSA) in advancing the mission to end sexual violence and support survivors; and
WHEREAS, MOCSA's strategic plan, centered on the IDEA framework of Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility, underscores their commitment to serving diverse communities and addressing systemic injustices; and
WHEREAS, MOCSA's client-centered, trauma-informed practices exemplify their unwavering dedication to empowering survivors and fostering healing within our community; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That the Mayor and Council hereby declare April 24, 2025, as Denim Day in Kansas City, Missouri; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to MOCSA with the Mayor and Council extending their heartfelt appreciation to MOCSA and all partners for their tireless efforts in creating a safer, more inclus...
