RESOLUTION - Declaring May 2026, as Older Americans Month in Kansas City.

WHEREAS, May is Older Americans Month, a time for us to recognize and honor Kansas City, Missouri older Americans' contributions, highlight aging trends, and reaffirm our commitment to serving older adults in our communities; and
WHEREAS, through their wisdom and wealth of life experiences older adults make immeasurable contributions to the community through intergenerational relationships, community service, civic engagement, and many other activities; and
WHEREAS, Older Americans are exploring the many opportunities for staying active and engaged as they age; and
WHEREAS, Kansas City, Missouri must highlight the importance of evidence-based approaches, self-management, and community partnerships that empower individuals to lead their healthiest lives; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That the Mayor and Council hereby declare May 2026, as Older Americans Month in Kansas City, with this year's theme, "Champion Your Health," focusing on prevention, wellness, and personal responsibility as cornerstones of healthy aging; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Tina Uridge, Executive Director, Clay County Senior Services, Vicki Hon, Operations Administrator & Program Support, Clay County Senior Services, Kristi Bohling-DaMetz, Director, Aging & Adult Services, Mid-America Regional Council, Debra L. Gwin, Executive Director, Platte County Senior Fund, and Celia Casolari, Senior Case Manager, Platte County Senior Fund with the Mayor and Council urging every resident to recognize the contributions of our older citizens, help to create an inclusive society, and join efforts to support older Americans' choices about how they age in their communit...
