Celebrating Bier Station’s Impact in South Kansas City under the Leadership of John Couture.

WHEREAS, John is a graduate of the Kaufman Urban Entrepreneur program and a long-time South Kansas City resident with his wife Bridget and their daughters; and
WHEREAS, John worked with City Council and Regulated Industries over a decade ago to pass legislation that enabled business concepts like Bier Station to open and successfully operate in Kansas City; and
WHEREAS, since 2016, Bier Station has raised more than $300,000 for non-profit organizations, advocacy campaigns and candidates for office and hosted two reproductive rights events that raised nearly $40,000; and
WHEREAS, Bier Station earned a business beautification award from Southtown Council, numerous national craft beer awards including “Best Beer Bar in Every State” and “Top 100 Beer Bars in America”; and
WHEREAS, Bier Station held several COVID vaccination clinics on site in Spring of 2021, and vaccinated more than 1,000 residents; and
WHEREAS, Bier Station has hosted community events to encourage civic engagement to include neighborhood board meetings, City Council member open houses, and important campaigns such as E-tax renewal and infrastructure votes; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That the Mayor and Council hereby honor the impact of Bier Station in South Kansas City over the past decade; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to John Couture to acknowledge his accomplishments and long-term investment in South Kansas City, with the gratitude of the Mayor and City Council.
