Authorizing the Director of Health to expend $300,000.00 from funds previously appropriated in the Violence Prevention and Intervention Funds to provide funding to the Police Foundation for software acquisition.

WHEREAS, ensuring law enforcement has the tools to respond quickly and efficiently increases public safety; and

WHEREAS, the Kansas City Police Department has identified additional software that will enhance data integration and operations management; and

WHEREAS, it will cost $2 million over 3 years to purchase the software; and the Police Foundation of Kansas City is raising $1.7 million to acquire said software; and

WHEREAS, this data analysis software will greatly enhance the effectiveness of the SAVE KC (Stand Against Violence Everyone, Everywhere, Every Day) Focused Deterrence program; and

WHEREAS, certain police departments that have utilized this software have decreased open homicide cases by up to 40%; and

WHEREAS, there are available funds in the Violence Prevention and Intervention Fund; and

WHEREAS, City Council desires to promote public safety and support efficient, data-driven law enforcement practices by providing $300,000.00 to the Police Foundation of Kansas City for the purchase of said software from previously appropriated funds; NOW, THEREFORE,

BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

Section 1. Authorizing the Director of Health to expend the sum of $300,000.00 from funds previously appropriated in the Violence Prevention and Intervention Fund in Account No. 25-2000-501905-B to provide funding to the Police Foundation of Kansas City for the purpose of assisting the Kansas City Police Department with the acquisition of software that will enhance data integration and operations management.
