RESOLUTION - Declaring Black History Month in Kansas City and authorizing the City Manager to fly the Pan-African Flag.

WHEREAS, February is recognized as Black History Month throughout the United States; and
WHEREAS, recognizing and celebrating Black History Month raises awareness of the struggle for freedom and equality, and that despite the strides that have been made in the name of justice, there are still many areas where progress is needed; and
WHEREAS, the contributions of Black Kansas Citians have left an indelible impact on the City’s history and culture; and
WHEREAS, raising the Pan-African Flag honors the long history and influence of the Black community in Kansas City; and
WHEREAS, the City Council wishes to acknowledge and celebrate the heritage, perseverance, and achievements of Black Kansas Citians; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That the Mayor and Council hereby declare Black History Month to be observed from February 1 to March 1 and authorize the City Manager to fly the Pan-African Flag at City Hall.
