RESOLUTION - Honoring the National Association of Letter Carriers Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive.

WHEREAS, since 1993, the National Association of Letter Carriers has partnered with Feeding America's food bank network for a nationwide food drive that raises more than 40 million pounds of food annually; and
WHEREAS, the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive is the nation's largest single day food drive and plays a vital role in both raising awareness about food insecurity and providing essential support to communities across the country; and
WHEREAS, on Saturday, May 10, 2025, the National Association of Letter Carriers will once again collect nonperishable food donations from homes across the Kansas City area and the nation; and
WHEREAS, Harvesters-The Community Food Network, and its regional partners have collected an average of 200,000 pounds of food in a single day over the last few years, resulting in the equivalent of more than 165,000 meals distributed to individuals and families across their 27-county service area; and
WHEREAS, the demand for emergency food assistance in our region remains critical, with approximately 338,000 people relying on food banks and pantries for support; and
WHEREAS, this vital effort would not be possible without the strong collaboration between the National Association of Letter Carriers, the United States Postal Service, Harvesters-The Community Food Network, Price Chopper, and many other national and local partners; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That the Mayor and Council hereby commend the National Association of Letter Carriers, in partnership with the United States Postal Service, Harvesters and Price Chopper, and all supporting organizations, for their dedication to the 2025 Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive and their continued efforts to fi...
