Appropriating $200,000.00 from the Contingent Appropriation Fund to the City Manager-Administration account; and authorizing the City Manager to fund a nationwide search for a New Chief of Police.

WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of both the Kansas City, Missouri, Police Department and the citizens of this City for there to be a timely and professional search By the Board of Police Commissioners for an appropriate replacement for retiring Chief Rick Smith; and
WHEREAS, any funding for Budget Year 2022-23, including any funding that the Council may choose to authorize over the required statutory minimum, should be based on the public safety priorities to be set by the newly-selected Chief of Police to better address the future public safety needs of the citizens of Kansas City; and
WHEREAS, such a timely and professional search will require outreach across the nation to procure the best candidate for this important position; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
Section 1. That the appropriation in the following account is hereby reduced by the following amount:
22-1000-179990-B Contingent Appropriation $200,000.00
Section 2. That the appropriation in the following account is hereby increased by the following amount:
22-1000-101000-B City Manager-Administration $200,000.00
Section 3. That the City Manager is authorized to fund such a nation-wide search for a new Chief of Police and to provide such additional help and expertise from the City's professional staff as the Board may require.
