RESOLUTION - Recognizing September 28, 2025, as National Good Neighbor Day, celebrating fostering strong, supportive relationships among neighbors, fostering understanding and creating vibrant, thriving communities in Kansas City and beyond.

WHEREAS, National Good Neighbor Day was established in 1978 by U.S. President Jimmy Carter, to reinforce the relationships that form the fabric of our communities; and

 

WHERAS, Missouri Good Neighbor Week was signed into law in 2022, encouraging citizens of Missouri to participate in events and activities to establish connections with their neighbors, and is celebrated from September 28 to October 4; and

 

WHEREAS, bringing neighbors together builds stronger bonds that lead to more connected, resilient, and thriving communities across our nation; and

 

WHEREAS, when neighbors engage, share, and celebrate with one another, communities thrive-students succeed, crime decreases, children are safer, and overall well-being grows; and

 

WHERAS, National Good Neighbor Day is celebrated and officially recognized on September 28, 2025, NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby recognize September 28, 2025, as National Good Neighbor Day; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to the City of KCMO Neighborhoods Department with the appreciation of the Mayor and Council for the outstanding achievements of all Kansas City “good” neighbors by honoring them on this day and making all of our neighborhoods a better, safer and happier place to live.
