WHEREAS, the mission of the American Jazz Museum is to celebrate and exhibit the experience of jazz as an original American art form through research, exhibition, education, and performance at one of the country's jazz crossroads - 18th and Vine; and

WHEREAS, the Council deems support of the American Jazz Museum to be a worthy expenditure of City funds; and

WHEREAS, Lord Cultural Resources completed a Redevelopment Plan for the American Jazz Museum to include: adaptive reuse of an existing building, sustainable design/elements, placement of the 180-200 seated person capacity Blue Room to the current temporary gallery area east of the Atrium, expanded restroom facilities, rearrangement of Back of House spaces for ease of access, redevelopment of existing Blue Room space to a caf? and expanded retail area, John Baker exhibit space to be moved to existing theater area, existing retail area to be re-envisioned as a children's play area, and current John Baker and incubator space to become the new Temporary Exhibit Space; and

WHEREAS, funding is needed in order to implement Phase I of the Redevelopment Plan to financially sustain the Museum; NOW,THEREFORE
